Western Breach Route Kilimanjaro Climb is one of the least crowded routes and one of the most fascinating. This is by far best non-technical route on the mountain and our summit day is only a 1 to 2 hour hike from our last camp. One of the best features of the route is the longer, slower ascent which gives the body time to acclimatize to the altitude gradually- this greatly increases the success rate. The final night before summit is spent sleeping in the crater next to the towering Furtwangler Glaciers, giving you a stunning view westward towards Mount Meru and the setting African sun. The final ascent is then only 195m and can be undertaken after sunrise and a leisurely breakfast or just early enough to be at the summit during sunrise. This is quite a contrast to the 1200m log required to summit via all other base camp to the summit.

Join us as we take you on a journey through some of the most fascinating destinations in the world.

After breakfast we will drive about 2 to 3 hours from Moshi to Londorosi gate for registration and collect our entrance permit then we will drive again about one hour to Lemosho starting point where we will get off from our jeep and break for picnic lunch. In this point is where we will meet with the rest of Eastland adventures Kilimanjaro crew like guide, cook and Porters. Our hiking will start through crossing rain forest about 3 to 4 hours to cover the distance of 7km. On our way we will see a lot of beautiful flowers like impatients Kilimanjari and if you will be lucky you might see black and white Colobus Monkey sand other forest wildlife.

After breakfast while our crew clearing the camp we will start gradual working through rain forest and after two hours we will be out of the forest in the moorland zone, West side of Shira plateau where you will be able to see old lava flow and we will walk slowly to enjoying the sun and more breaks for acclimatize. Our distance will be 7km and we will spend 5 to 7 hours including picnic lunch break, after we will get to our camp for resting and overnight.

Today you will have long way by starting with the gradual boulder rocks and get to the junction in alpine desert, Meet with other hikers from Machame route and join them in the same trail heading to Lava tower, A high 150m volcanic lava plug juts out of the side of mountain, we will arrive at lava tower around noon for lunch and rest for a while before descend about 1 to 2 hours to Moir hut our beautiful overnight camp located at the base of massive lava flow.

Today we will be a short hike about 3 to 4 hours walking for a while before getting to alpine desert then lava tower, a 150m high volcanic lava plug that juts out of the side of mountain. We will arrive at lava tower for lunch and after lunch we can rest for few hours before wake up earlier evening for acclimatization walk and back to our camp for early evening appetizing hot drinks and snacks before dinner and overnight.

Today is very short day about 2 to 3 hours to cover the distance of 3km we will climb to the base of the route where we will camp near Arrow Glacier. Today we will spent mostly resting and conserving strength, but we will also do an afternoon hike partway along the final climbing ascent route thus will get us to high elevations for better acclimatization and give us a chance to familiarize ourselves with the beginning of the toughest hiking day of the whole climb.

Today it’s our difficult and challenging part of our hike we will start by gradual ascent through volcanic screed meet zigzag trail which starting to get steep and keep moving to carter rim at Gilman’s point 5685m, where we will break for a while to get some pictures and light food before heading to Stella point 5756m where we will gate into crater from this point. You will rest for a while and after you will have an optional hike to explore the inner crater and ash pit which is raised circular inner rim the inside of which slopes down to a flat floor and then 200m deep inverted cone at the very center of volcano, Also mount Kilimanjaro has one of the mostly perfect formed volcanic ash pit of any mountain in the world.

Today we will wake up earlier enjoy our breakfast start our ascent to the summit early enough in the morning to be at the summit by sunrise. This final hike to the summit is about 195m but very tiring. The beginning part of the trail is very soft, loose, dusty and very few steep rocky scrambling to the top followed by relatively flat terrain about 250yards to Uhuru sign. This is quite difference compare to 1200m long required to summit from other base camp. The reward of seeing glacier and standing of Africa highest peak are well worth the efforts. At the summit you will spend 10 to 20 minutes for pictures and view before join other hikers to descend to Barafu base camp for 2 to 3 hours where we will have short break for brunch before descend to Mweka hut 3100m for overnight.

After breakfast you will meet Eastland adventures crew again for group pictures and Kilimanjaro song, After we will start descending down via rain forest about 10km for 3 to 4 hours. While we are in the forest if you’re lucky you can see black and white Colobus and blue Monkeys and you will be able to hear a lot bird singing some songs but it’s not easy to see them. Once we arrive at the gate we will sing out in Kilimanjaro national park log book our guide will collect our certificate for those who made successful summit and drive to your hotel in Moshi for long shower and Kilimanjaro beer.

Machame Route: It is the most popular route at mountain Kilimanjaro and it is located at the southern part of the mountain. This route is very scenic and it has gradual ascent. You can climb it in 6days, 7days or 8 days depend with your time and budget it is camping route and one of the two ‘whisky’ routes in Mount Kilimanjaro. Climbing Machame in 8 days is very comfortable, and it provides enough time for acclimatization. No camp is skipped, also you will have opportunity to explore crater and overnight at the highest camp in Kilimanjaro, the route follows the pattern of hiking to a high altitude during the day and sleeping at a lower altitude at night, despite of crater camp.
The drive to Machame gate is an about 45 minutes from Moshi and it crosses the cultivation zone. You can see numerous of villages, coffee and banana farms on your way to the gate. Once you arrive at the gate we do registration in Kilimanjaro national park log book, pay the entrance fee and get validly permit, after which hiking can start at 1800m/5905ft.

Lemosho route is one of the best routes for acclimatization. The route is less used and a beautiful way up to the Shira Plateau. The route is one of the few where groups may be accompanied on the first day by an armed ranger, as the forests around the Lemosho Glades are inhabited by buffalo, elephant and other wildlife. The minimum duration for the Lemosho route is 6 days, however we strongly recommend hiking the route in 7 days. The additional 7th day will give your body more time to acclimatize, reducing the effects of altitude sickness and give you more time to rest before attempting the summit.

The Rongai Route is one of the easiest routes and the success rate is very high. The route starts on the north side of the mountain just south of the Kenyan border, and is one of the least travelled routes. The descent is down the Marangu Route on the south side of the mountain, so climbers see the mountain from many viewpoints. The drive to the trail head takes about 3 hours from Moshi through many villages and coffee plantations, including a stop to register climbing permits at Marangu. The Rongai Route can also be accessed from Amboseli National Park in Kenya. Allow 2 hours including border crossing. We will need copies of passports ahead of time.

Nicknamed the “Whiskey” route because the route is popularized as somewhat difficult and more expensive than Marangu route. On an overall comparison of the routes to scale Kilimanjaro, this is one of the best routes to take, both in terms of acclimatization and cost. The Machame route is considered a difficult route, and is better suited for more adventurous trekkers and those with some hiking or backpacking experience.
The Machame route is scenically beautiful and varied. However, due to its popularity there are increased numbers of trekkers, it loses some of its splendour. The Machame route approaches the summit from the southwest and descends using the Mweka route, rewarding climbers with views of the expansive Shira Plateau, an optional scramble up Lava Tower, a climb up the Great Barranco wall, and a traverse underneath Kilimanjaro’s southern ice field. In certain sections this route is steeper than the Marangu and Rongai routes and physically more demanding but is easier overall.

They were so attentive and supportive for our team of ten on the Kilimanjaro climb and safari tour. Before we even finished our sentence if we went to make a request, it was being acted upon! They fully understand the hiker experience and do everything in their power to make it the most enjoyable and rewarding journey right from the moment you step off the plane.A++ rating from our whole team!
Sally M2025-07-15Amazing adventure Hi Daniel and team, I would just like to say thank you for the amazing experience that I had with Eastland Adventures and Take Shape Adventures. Your team of guides and porters were absolutely fantastic. I especially love the conversations that I was able to have with Tlusa, David and Leo. I really appreciated Tlusa sharing his family stories with me and through David I have a much better understanding of Tanzania. The summit day, was exhilarating and very tiring, talking to David really helped me enjoy the walk down from the summit. Thank you so much to all your team, you have made my holiday absolutely incredible. Thanks Sally

We never felt rushed and were able to take our time for photos and just observing. He always checked with us before moving on.

Melle W2025-05-1411/10 RECOMMEND EASTLAND ADVENTURES for Kili climb! ❤️ Safe, knowledgeable, prepared, fun & successful! Climbing Kilimanjaro with Eastland Adventures was the experience of a lifetime. We were amazed by the large support team—many hands truly made light work. The guides were knowledgeable, fun, and incredibly supportive. They knew every detail of the mountain and made us feel safe at every step. Summit day was no joke, but when we got stuck, they carried our packs (on top of there's!!) when we struggled (still makes me tear up), helping us reach the top. The food was incredible (especially for being on a mountain!), and the accommodations before the climb were clean and secure. Everything was thoughtfully organized—even personalized mugs! Can’t recommend them enough. Feel free to message on IG: @mellewilliamson.
Miguel2025-03-29Eastland Adventures made our Kilimanjaro dreams come true! Words cannot express our appreciation for the incredible trekking experience with Eastland Adventures that made our Kilimanjaro summit dreams come true. The exceptional care, attention to detail, and remarkable expertise was truly amazing. We are so grateful and would 100% recommend them for your Kilimanjaro climb! As we were planning our trip, we researched various trekking companies and a family member referred us to Eastland Adventures. We are so happy we chose them. From the beginning, communication with Daniel, founder and CEO, was phenomenal. Correspondence was timely, thoughtful, detailed, and very helpful. Our lead guide David and assistant guide Walter were absolutely incredible and shared so much with us during our expedition. They were patient, knowledgeable, and caring. Their encouragement and experience was instrumental in creating a successful and fun adventure. We truly appreciated the way our guides taught us about the mountain, the people, and the culture. In addition to our amazing guides, the entire team of porters were superhuman, demonstrating remarkable strength and endurance. Carrying individual packs while balancing heavy loads on their heads, the team was truly inspiring. Their specialized skills ensured our comfort and well-being from setting up camp to crafting delicious meals to providing a portable clean toilet. It was wonderful to experience their camaraderie and joy, and the team's dedication to service was evident in every detail. Shout out to team Calimanjaro: Boniface, Jackson, Langaeli, Walle, Joseph, Ali, Oswald, John, Matei, and Shedrac. Mashujaa for life! In December 2024, we completed the 7-day Rongai route, which was great for acclimatization and to enjoy the Kilimanjaro adventure without feeling rushed. After our progress on the first day and with our guides' advice, we were able to spend two nights rather than one at a higher elevation to acclimatize better, which made our Kilimanjaro adventure even more successful. On summit night, we hiked up with our guides and support porters. Summit night/day was a challenging climb for us because of the altitude, and we would not have made it to the summit without our summit team. They were encouraging, patient, and supportive. Reaching the summit was a dream come true! Overall, it was an experience of a lifetime. Eastland Adventures went above and beyond what we could have ever imagined. Asante Sana Eastland Adventures!- Aarika and Miguel

Navigator1810332024-03-12Amazing once in a lifetime experience! Daniel at Eastland ensured that we were very comfortable during our entire trip. He arranged everything from transportation, lodging, knowledgeable mountain guides, fantastic cook, and amazing porters. We had a small group of family (only 3 of us). We didn't know what to expect landing in Tanzania for the first time, but felt very welcome and gained some new local family. Everything was on-time and as scheduled. We were fed like royalty and had, the always welcome, coffee and tea in the morning and tea time in the evening. The whole experience was once in a lifetime and we are sure we chose the correct outfit. The views spoke for themselves. We had ideal weather.
John B2024-03-06Awesome!!!! Great time all round! Porters, guides, drivers were friendly and professional. Food, campsites, sleeping tents, toilets all very good. Climbing Kilimanjaro was both beautiful and brutal especially on way down! I only wish we had taken more time with the safari and stayed longer. Really an existential experience we will never forget. Asante Tanzania!
SuziCNM2024-03-05Truly the trip of a lifetime. BOOK NOW!!! After our Kili hike, we chose to run in the Moshi marathon. Then, we departed on Safari for 4 days. MINDS BLOWN!!! Our driver Raymond was amazing! The roads to and from the national parks are CHALLENGING, and those within the park even more so. Be prepared for lots of bumps and mud, but the reward is MORE THAN WORTH IT!!! The Serengeti is never ending, and has more animals that you can even imagine. Ngorongoro is not to be missed either. Each and every detail was planned for us, which made it easier for us to really enjoy all that the country has to offer. DO NOT HESITATE to consider Eastland for your Tanzania adventure!!! Locally owned and operated!!
