Tour Overview

Umbwe Route: Is the most scenic but is recommended only for experienced climbers. It starts with a quick ascend, so it provides very little time for acclimatization. It is located at the southern part of the mountain and referred to whisky route because of its steep ascend. It can be climbed in 6 to 7 days. To get to Umbwe gate 1600m you have to drive to Machame gate first to get your entry permit, then you have to drive about 30km back to Moshi and take a diversion left to Umbwe village. 6 Days Kilimanjaro Climb – Umbwe Route

Day 1
To Umbwe Camp 2650m
Moshi
Umbwe Gate

On day 1 you will hike from Umbwe gate (1600m) to Umbwe camp. You will pass through dense rain forest. You will be able to see Black and White Colubus as well as Blue Monkeys and some endemic flowers like Impatiens Kilimanjari. The distance is 11km and the walk time is 5 to 6 hours, including a lunch break.

Day 2
To Baranco camp 3940m

From Umbwe camp to Baranco camp it is a very steep climb. The distance is 6km which will take 4-5 hours of hiking and you will be in the moorland zone. The trail becomes less steep as you get closer to Baranco camp. At Baranco camp you will meet climbers from Machame, Lemosho and Londorossi routes. The hike from Umbwe to Baranco offers a nice view of your ultimate destination, Kibo peak, and also numerous rift valleys on the way and the forest you crossed on day 1.

To Karanga Camp 3995m

From Baranco camp to Karanga camp it takes 2 – 3 hours and distance is 5km and you will cross Breakfast or Baranco Wall, which is 300m high. The peak of the wall is at 4200m. This part is challenging because the trail is narrow and the number of hikers, porters and guides is large. In some parts you have to use your hands for climbing. You will cross the famous places called Kissing Rock. Shorty before Karanga Camp you will cross the Karanga Valley at 3930m which is the last point where porters can fetch water.

To Barafu Camp 4673m -Uhuru Peak then back to Barafu Camp

It will only take 2 to 3 hours and the covered distance is 4km from Karanga to Barafu Camp. It is not steep but to acclimatize you have to walk pole pole (slowly). You will be in the alpine desert and at the left side you can see the Kibo Peak and few meters before Barafu you will find Sedimentary rocks. There is no water at the camp, so our team will carry water from Karanga Valley. Summit Night: The climb from Barafu camp to Uhuru point is 5km, which will take 6 to 7 hours and it is steep. The way is a zigzag path. The starting time is around midnight. It is a challenging night and before you reach to Uhuru point you will cross the Stella Point (5756m) at the crater rim and join with the people from Marangu and Rongai routes. From Stella Point to Uhuru Point (5895m) is one hour of walking and mostly flat. After making it to Uhuru Point you can make pictures and you will return via the same route to Barafu Camp for a bit of sleep and brunch after wake up. Afterwards, the descend down will start via Mweka Route.

To Mweka Camp 3100m

The descend via Mweka route starts at Barafu camp to Millennium Camp 3797m. The way is steep, and it just takes only 2-3 hours to cover the 4km to Millennium Camp. You will pass from the alpine desert to the moorland zone. From Millennium Camp to Mweka camp 3100m is also a steep walk which takes 2 – 3 hours for 3.5km. You will cross the moorland to the forest zone and on the way you will see Protea Kilimandscharica and Red Hot Poker and various other species of flowers and plants.

It is a long and steep downhill walk of about 10km which takes about 4-5 hour. The rain forest floor is wet and slippery, requiring careful and slow walking. You are again in the rain forest where you may again see various species of flowers like Impatiens Kilimanjari and different trees and also sometimes you may see Blue Monkey and Black and White Colobus Monkeys. At the Mweka Gate: Once you arrival at Mweka Gate you will sign out in Kilimanjaro national park log book. Our guide will collect certificate for those who made successful climb to Stella Point and Uhuru Point. Afterwards we will drive to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for long shower and beer.

8 Days Hiking Lemosho Route

Lemosho route is one of the best routes for acclimatization. The route is less used and a beautiful way up to the Shira Plateau. The route is one of the few where groups may be accompanied on the first day by an armed ranger, as the forests around the Lemosho Glades are inhabited by buffalo, elephant and other wildlife. The minimum duration for the Lemosho route is 6 days, however we strongly recommend hiking the route in 7 days. The additional 7th day will give your body more time to acclimatize, reducing the effects of altitude sickness and give you more time to rest before attempting the summit.

Great company, guides, and Kilimanjaro experience!
Myself and 2 friends went with Eastland for the 8-day Kilimanjaro trek via Lemosho route, and had the adventure of a lifetime! We went as part of a group of 17, which included wonderful guides, porters, and cooks. All were so pleasant, positive, and helpful in making our hike memorable. Food, tents, bathrooms throughout were set up well and despite the extreme conditions on the mountain we were well taken care of. I came with friends and left with a family, go with Eastland! Safari perfetto e campi tendati WOW
Daniel e il suo team ci hanno organizzato 5 giorni di safari che sono stati perfetti! Ci hanno seguito dall'arrivo all'aeroporto Kilimanjaro fino alla ripartenza per Zanzibar. Abbiamo pernottato in hotel ad Arusha e NgoroNgoro e poi in due campi tendati nel Serengeti. Abbiamo visitato i parchi Tarangire, NgoroNgoro e Serengeti Central e Nord. In particolare i campi tendati erano davvero di alto livello e gli autisti e le guide che ci hanno accompagnato (2 jeep con 2 autisti e 1 guida parlante italiano) veramente professionali, esperti e molto simpatici. Great experience for 4-day safari
We hired Eastland to be our safari guide for a 4-day trip. Daniel (owner of the company) helped us plan the trip, he and the rest of the people involved were great to work with. Dilly was our guide and he was awesome! He was great to travel with, extremely knowledgeable, and accommodated whatever we needed. Dilly knows a bunch of other guides, which was very helpful. Each guide would let others where to find certain exotic animals if they came across them. Wonderful Experience hiking Kilimanjaro!
My wife and I hired Eastland Adventures to guide us on the 8-day Lemosho route to hike Kilimanjaro. It was an amazing experience thanks to our crew below! Guides - Charles and Erick Chef - Shedrack Waiter - Albini Private Restroom Porter - Mlay Porters 1. Denis 2. Petro 3. Rajabu 4. Natanaeli 5. Fredy 6. Juma The entire crew was extremely attentive, helpful, and overly accommodating. The whole crew was very helpful with assisting minor things that made the experience great, such as setting our tent up in optimal areas each night, helping us with our hiking needs (fixing water bladders, adjusting poles, etc.), and going above and beyond to ensure we summited the peak. Highly recommend this crew. Charles and Erick are guides you want to summit the mountain with. They were knowledgeable, motivating, and a pleasure to be around throughout the entire trip! We thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them and they were crucial to our success, helping us with whatever we needed. They even offered to carry our backpacks the night of the summit. Eastland Adventures is also a locally run company. We preferred supporting the local people and felt our experience with Erick and Charles was better than those who used larger international companies, from what we could see. Climbing Kilimanjaro : Highly recommend Eastland Adventures for their attention to detail, skilled team and extraordinary service while climbing Kilimanjaro - what an awesome fun team they have - always thinking ahead to what we need each day, monitoring our health, keeping us safe, encouraged and well fed at all times. 4-day Safari : also excellent, our driver George knew the tracks so well and took us to so so many animals and safe picnic locations. Climbing Kilimanjaro with Eastland Adventures was the experience of a lifetime. We were amazed by the large support team—many hands truly made light work. The guides were knowledgeable, fun, and incredibly supportive. They knew every detail of the mountain and made us feel safe at every step. Summit day was no joke, but when we got stuck, they carried our packs (on top of there's!!) when we struggled (still makes me tear up), helping us reach the top. The food was incredible (especially for being on a mountain!), and the accommodations before the climb were clean and secure. Everything was thoughtfully organized—even personalized mugs!
